Reliance NU Suntech plans ₹10,000 cr solar project

Reliance NU Suntech, an Anil Ambani-led, wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, will implement Asia’s largest integrated solar and battery energy storage project at Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. The project with an investment of ₹10,000 crore will be completed within 24 months and is a landmark achievement for India’s renewable energy industry.

The project comprises a 930 MW solar power plant paired with a 465 MW/1,860 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This configuration will provide four hours of peak power supply daily, enhancing energy reliability and supporting grid stability during high-demand periods. The initiative was awarded through SECI’s Tranche XVII auction, where Reliance NU Suntech secured the largest allocation through competitive reverse bidding.

A 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been executed with SECI at a fixed tariff of ₹3.53 per unit. Besides its energy contribution, the project is anticipated to provide large-scale employment opportunities—creating more than 1,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs during the construction process.

Reliance Power will also invest another ₹6,500 crore to set up an integrated solar manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh, making the state an even stronger hub for renewable energy. This is in line with India’s clean energy vision and shows Reliance’s focus on sustainable development and energy transition.
