L&T secures $4B QatarEnergy LNG contract

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s engineering and construction major, has bagged its largest overseas order to date of about $4 billion from QatarEnergy LNG. The historic order is for the construction of offshore platforms and related facilities under Qatar’s North Field Expansion Project, designed to increase the nation’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) output capacity.

The work scope under this Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract covers the offshore wellhead platforms, subsea pipeline, as well as onshore facilities to serve the gas production and processing activities. This project victory further strengthens L&T’s position as a world-class EPC player, particularly in the Middle East’s booming hydrocarbon industry.

L&T highlighted that the project showcases its ability to execute large, complex projects of international standards in terms of world-class safety and quality. It also reflects India’s increasing presence in global energy infrastructure development.

This giant order not only increases L&T’s global footprint but also indicates possible scope for Indian subcontractors and trained workforce involvement. As demand for cleaner energy rises globally, the project fits with Qatar’s plan to continue being a leading LNG supplier while affirming L&T’s position in facilitating global energy transitions.
