DHL expands India’s freight capacity by 30%
In September 2022, DHL Supply Chain – part of Deutsche Post DHL group announced to invest half a billion Euros or nearly INR 4,000 crores in the next five years to enhance its logistics blueprint in India.
The key components of this investment are:
- Warehousing Expansion: New measures include increasing the ratio of warehousing to overall logistics spaces to 60/40 by 2026, which will add an additional 12 million square feet of warehousing mix to existing stock, putting the overall logistics spaces at roughly 22 million by 2026. The areas of focus for this expansion are e-business, transactions, consumer products, health care bio-sciences, technology, construction, production, and automotive.
- Workforce Growth: India’s workforce will be doubled to around 20000 by 2026 with highlights for which Investments for skill development and resourcing centers would be made to cater to personnel for industrial changes and digitization.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Converting all intra-city vehicles to run on green fuel and electricity by end of 2025, developing green elements to new sites they will be developing, use of solar power, harvesting rain water, energy efficient lightings, smart meters.
It proves that DHL targets to enhance its logistics network in India, following the increase in demand to serve multiple industries as well as pursuing corporate social responsibility goals around the world.
