Tatas, Singapore discuss semiconductor development partnership

The Tata Group is in discussions with the Singapore government to collaborate on semiconductor development. Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Law, K. Shanmugam, highlighted that Tata may select Singapore as a key partner, citing the country’s significant role in the global semiconductor industry and its longstanding relationship with Tata.

Singapore contributes approximately 20% to global semiconductor equipment production and hosts 25 foundries. This potential partnership aligns with Tata’s strategic initiatives, including the establishment of an AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, and a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor assembly and testing unit in Assam.

The discussions also encompass workforce training, research and development, and sustainable growth, aiming to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.

This collaboration reflects a broader strategy to develop a robust domestic chip manufacturing ecosystem in India.
