Britannia is in discussions to acquire Kishlay Foods

Britannia Industries is in advanced talks to acquire a controlling stake in Kishlay Foods, a prominent snack manufacturer based in Guwahati, Northeast India. With an estimated valuation between ₹600-700 crore, the deal is expected to strengthen Britannia’s foothold in the region and broaden its product portfolio to include categories like noodles and tea, where it currently lacks presence. Kishlay Foods, founded in 2001 by Sandeep and Krishna Bajaj, began as a biscuit manufacturer and has since expanded its offerings to include a wide variety of snacks and beverages under brands such as Non-Stop, Kishlay, and Mamooz.

Kishlay Foods reported an annual revenue of ₹350 crore in the financial year ending in March 2023, making it one of the largest snack manufacturers in the region. For Britannia, this acquisition aligns with its strategy to capitalize on the fast-growing snack market, which has seen a resurgence in regional brands post-pandemic. The deal, if finalized, would give Britannia access to the Northeast market, leveraging Kishlay’s extensive distribution network, which spans over 200,000 retail touchpoints and reaches 46 million consumers.

The acquisition also reflects Britannia’s broader ambition to diversify its product portfolio and compete more effectively with regional and direct-to-consumer brands, particularly as the snacks market continues to expand at a double-digit pace.
