Trump Injured, Shooter Killed at Rally
Former U.S. President Donald Trump was injured during an assassination attempt on Sunday at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The attack resulted in the death of one bystander and left two other spectators critically wounded. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by the U.S. Secret Service after firing from an elevated rooftop.
Trump recounted the incident on Truth Social: “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
The violent and chaotic scene occurred less than four months before the U.S. Presidential elections. Despite the chaos, Trump, the Republican candidate, was seen pumping his fist in defiance as he was rushed off the stage. He was later released from a local hospital after being evaluated.
The FBI identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the shooter. According to state voter records, Crooks was a registered Republican. The upcoming November 5 election would have been the first time Crooks was old enough to vote in a presidential race. This incident is expected to have significant repercussions on the already strained political landscape in America.
